I Love the Art in Puyallup

Posted by dennis endres No Comments »

Back in the day, Farmers worked here, lived here.

This picture is just one of the examples of why we love living in Puyallup. Not just because it’s a great place to live, not because it’s cheaper to buy a home in Puyallup, not even because cars are cheaper in Puyallup.

For me, it’s the quality here. It’s because when you catch someone’s eye and smile, they smile back. It’s because when you are pulling out of Starbucks on to a crowded busy street, someone will let you in. Because it’s written in the city code….You have to like people to live here(sometimes we wish)!!!

I found this painted art on the side of a business building downtown.

There is a lot of art around downtown. I will be bringing you more art as time goes on.

When you travel the city and you notice the art….on a building, standing on a corner, or in the park……..take a minute and reflect. Someone made this art for you and me to see!!!

I am just a country boy, turned Realtor….but this my town.

Thanks for listening,

A Man, A Woman and a Glass of Milk

Posted by dennis endres No Comments »

I write these articles and they are supposed to be about Real Estate or at least about Puyallup. I’m sorry, but this story is just about:

Touching someone and changing a life!!

If it touches you…….Pass it on….

One day a poor boy was selling clothing door to door, to pay for his education. He realized he had only ten cents left in his pockets. He was hungry, so he decided to ask for some food at the next house he came to. He lost his hunger when a beautiful young woman came to the door. Instead of a meal, he asked for a glass of water. She saw that he was very hungry, so instead brought him a huge glass of milk. He drank it very slowly and then asked; How much to I owe you? You do not owe me anything at all, she replied. My mother taught us never to accept anything for doing someone a kindness. He replied; then I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

When Howard Kelly left the house, as well as feeling stronger physically, he sensed a return of his faith in the Lord, which he had nearly abandoned.

Years later this same young woman fell ill. The local doctors were mystified, so they sent her to the big city, where they knew the specialists would be able to diagnose this rare sickness. Doctor Howard Kelly was called as a consultant. When he heard the name of the city where she lived, the memory burned brightly in his eyes. He got up and went to her room. As he entered the room, he immediately recognized her. He returned to the consultation room, determined to save her life. From that day on, he would pay special attention to this case. After a long battle, the war was finally won.

Doctor Kelly left instructions that the bill was to be sent to him for authorization. He looked it over, wrote something in the margin and sent it to her room. She thought that when she opened the envelope, she’d find an invoice that would take the rest of her life to pay in full. But, when she finally opened it, something caught her attention in the margin of the invoice.

She read these words: Paid in Full with a Glass of Milk. Doctor Howard Kelly.

Tears of joy filled her eyes and her heart. She prayed: Thank you Lord for your love has crossed the hands and hearts of man.

There is a saying that goes like this: “Bread, thrown over the water, returns to you”. An act of goodness that you do today can come back to you or someone you love, when you are not expecting it. If you do not see this act of kindness returned,  at least you will have made a difference in this world.

And in the end…isn’t that what life is all about??

Now you have two choices. Pass this message on, or make believe that you were never touched by it. The hardest lesson in life, is to know which bridges to cross and which to burn.

Many people pass through our lives, but only real friends leave their imprint in our hearts.

This story touched me…..so I want to make it available to you all!

Here’s hoping you have a wonderful day!

Freshly made Hospital room                 Staff at Good Samaritan Hospital

We just got the official word that after four years, Good Samaritan Hospital has succeeded in obtaining the Certificate of Need approval to add 50 patient beds to  the Patient Care Tower. This raises the  licensed beds from 225 to 275 and places the Hospital on the path of fulfilling their desire to be the regional medical center of choice for our communities.

Skokomish River Flooding Farms

Posted by dennis endres No Comments »

The above picture is taken from the Skokomish River Bridge on Hwy 101.

This picture is take from the farmer’s side of the Skokomish River.

While on my day trip, I took some pictures of the flooding between Shelton and Hoodsport. Specifically the Skokomish River shown here in the picture. Not that we go traveling Hwy 101 a lot. It just pays to be prudent.

There are quite a few people with land underwater now.

My point is, we all have a danger to be aware of. It doesn’t matter if you live close to the Skokomish River, the Puyallup River or the Skagit River. The weather, this coming winter, has been predicted to be a little harsh. So get your emergency kits prepared, put your boots and spare raincoat in your car, get the lanterns and flashlights ready. If you have a home or property and live in the lowlands, you just might get wet!

A long time ago, my Scoutmaster taught me: “Be Prepared”.

It was a good idea then, it still might be………

Wounded Veterans to get Computers at Madigan Hospital

Posted by dennis endres No Comments »

This is Vicky and a local Marine.

You all know our troops are in a far away land, doing whatever it takes to defend our way of life. I, for one, am glad they are over there instead of having this fight in downtown Puyallup. Have you ever thought about this. The only fighting we have is our own infighting amongst ourselves. If you’d like  a picture of what it might be like if we were invaded, go rent the Patrick Swayze film, “Red Dawn”. It could happen….

Today’s point is to tell you about the efforts of the local people who have helped the vets immensely……..It’s Vicky and her group at    SupportAmericasArmedForces.com

The latest is Laptops for the wounded at Madigan. If you have any questions, want to help financially, or to volunteer your time….her contact information is at the bottom of this article.

Vicky authorized me to release the following statement:

Support America’s Armed Forces(SAAF), is a committe of the Pierce Military and Business Alliance; a non-profit 501c3 organization. SAAF will be hosting a community educational outreach program for 2008 titled “Laptops for Madigan”. These computers will be going to the Warrior Transition Battalion at Madigan to assist with training and education of our wounded Armed Forces personnel while they are convalescing. The laptops will be on loan to the service members during their stay and provide a means for online education and networking to help them stay current with regard to options for future opportunities. Web access will also help our service men and women stay connected to family and friends while providing an important morale boost. The Madigan Foundation, which is a non-profit 501c3, will be the recipient of our heartfelt community donations and support.

WOW!! Sun Comes Out in Puyallup

Posted by dennis endres No Comments »

I know this is going to surprise you , with all the nasty rain and clouds lately….

But, I saw the sun this morning.  I was looking at property and homes for sale in Puyallup and I saw this big thing up in the sky. It wasn’t a bird, it wasn’t a plane, it wasn’t even Superman……….It was the sun!!!!

It’s very bright, so it doesn’t make that great a picture. The sun’s out…LOOK.

I know, just because the sun’s out doesn’t make the homes worth more or assure buyers that it’s OK to buy. Still, it’s a positive note and buyers should look at talking to a buyer’s agent, just to see! If you knew you could afford a home, would it make a difference to you and your family???

Metal Cows show up at Mud Bay in Olympia

Posted by dennis endres No Comments »

On my real estate related trip last weekend, from Puyallup to Lake Cushman,  I drove by Mud Bay. Local people know a lot about these things. A few years ago, driving a big rig, I came around the corner to see a deer in the middle of Hwy 101. It scared the you know right out of me. Luckily, she scampered off the road before I got to her.  I think it may have scared her too.

A while back these metal cows and a bull appeared out in the field. There is a Sci-Fi story that goes along with my story. To find out more about Mud Bay and better pictures of the metal cows….Click here.
